Download and export
Sooner or later a view has to leave SiteView: a photo for an email, a screen capture for a report, a dated sequence of the same spot, or the 3D data itself for another tool. This article covers the Download menu, Export 3D Data, and sharing a live view with Public Share.
To save a view so you can come back to it inside SiteView, see Bookmarks - come back to a view.
Download - leave with a file
Everything you can take out of SiteView as a file sits behind Download in the topbar. What it offers depends on the mode you are in.
In first-person mode
| Item | What you get |
|---|---|
| Download Pano | The 360 image you are standing in, as a JPG named for the level and the capture date |
| Download Screen Capture | The view as it is on screen |
| Create Timeline Report | A PDF of this spot across several dates, below |
- Download - opens the menu.
- Download Pano - the whole 360 photo.
- Download Screen Capture - exactly what is on screen.
- Create Timeline Report - a PDF of this spot across dates.
The Timeline Report
This is the one worth knowing. It builds a PDF of one spot across several dates, so a single page shows how that location changed, which is most of what a progress report is.
- Click Download, then Create Timeline Report. The dialog that opens is titled Screenshot with Timeline Changes.
- Enter a Title (required) and, if you like, a Description.
- Under Choose Capture to Export, pick Current Capture, a Capture Date Range, or Selected Captures ticked one by one.
- Set Print Order: Newest First or Oldest First.
- Turn on Include Measurements to draw saved measurements on the images.
- Click Export. When it finishes, click Open Report.
- Title - required; printed on the report.
- Description - optional.
- Which captures - the current one, a date range, or ones you select.
- Print Order - newest or oldest first.
- Include Measurements - adds the measurements to the pages.
- Export - makes the PDF.
The report opens as a printable page: the timeline along the top, the capture below it, ready for Print as PDF.
- The timeline - each date in the report, oldest to newest.
- One picture per date - the same position and direction on every capture.
In aerial mode - Export 3D Data
In aerial mode, Download carries Export 3D Data, which opens Export with two tabs.
| Tab | Format | Options | Use it for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Point Cloud | PLY | Binary or Text | The general-purpose choice. Binary is smaller; Text is readable |
| E57 | With Pano or Without Pano | The survey interchange format. With Pano carries the 360 imagery with the points, and is much larger | |
| XYZ | - | Plain coordinates, when the receiving tool wants nothing else | |
| Textured Mesh | OBJ | - | The mesh only |
| GLB | - | Mesh and texture in one file |
Both tabs offer Use Coordinates from Source Data. Tick it when the file is going into software that expects the survey coordinate system rather than the project one.
The export runs with its own progress dialog. Keep the page open until it finishes; cancelling tells you the export was cancelled.
- Point Cloud - exports the points.
- Format - PLY (Binary or Text), E57 or XYZ.
- Use Coordinates from Source Data - keeps the coordinates stored in the source point cloud file.
- Export - starts the export.
- Textured Mesh - exports the 3D model.
- Format - OBJ (mesh only) or GLB (mesh and texture).
Download or Export?
They are different things. Download is the button, and the flat files behind it. Export is the dialog for 3D data. If you are looking for a point cloud, you are looking for Export, and you get to it from Download in aerial mode.
Sharing and details
Sharing a view instead
Not everything has to be a file. Two things hand somebody the live view rather than a snapshot of it:
| To | Use |
|---|---|
| Send one exact view to a colleague | Copy Bookmark URL on a bookmark |
| Open the project to people without an account | Settings > Public Share, with Share Link to hand out and Manage Access for who may use it |
There is no Share button in the topbar. Public Share is a category in Settings, under Others.
- Public Share - a category in Settings.
- Access notice - who can open this SiteView.
- Share Link - the link to hand out; the icon copies it.
- Manage Access - opens the members page, where access is managed.
Manage Access opens the members page, where who has access to the project is managed.
- Permission Scope - the team, workspaces and projects.
- All Members - everyone with access, with Add Member.
- Roles & Permissions - each member's grade.
Information - what this picture is
Click Info, the i button in the topbar. Information opens beside the viewport with two tabs:
| Tab | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Location | Geolocation as latitude and longitude, then Building, Level, Work Area and Closest room: where this pano sits in the project |
| Capture Data | Camera, Taken at to the minute, Capture (the capture date it belongs to) and Pano ID |
Rows the project has no data for read Not available. An empty Work Area means the project has no work areas on this level, not that this pano fell outside them.
- Info - opens Information.
- Location and Capture Data - Capture Data is open.
- Camera, Taken at, Capture, Pano ID - the camera, when the photo was taken, its capture, and its ID for support.
