INTERNAL REVIEW DRAFT — not for publication. Screenshots are frames lifted from the two SiteView build recordings and two product-owner snips; most need re-shooting at full size before release. Blocks marked IMAGE NEEDED / BLOCKED / DEFERRED are captures that do not exist yet, and blocks marked FOR REVIEW are open questions. Every one of those blocks must be resolved and removed before this article leaves the Temporary section.
Introduction
Every point in a 3D model gets a label saying what it is — floor, ceiling, wall, pipe, and so on. That happens during reconstruction, with no user action and nothing to switch on. It is a capability of the Gen6 SLAM engine, which is why there is no Semantic Segmentation menu anywhere.
What you find instead is SmartFilter: the panel that lets you see those labels, hide what you do not want to look at, cut the model down to the levels you care about, and get back to the plain model when you are done.
Note: This article covers both the labels and the panel, because neither is usable without the other.
Where SmartFilter Lives
Switch to a 3D view and look at the navigation dial at the lower right of the viewport. Satellite buttons sit around it, and the funnel is one of them.
- Click the funnel button on the dial. The SmartFilter panel opens on the left.
- The funnel stays highlighted while the panel is open.
- Drag the panel by its handle to move it out of your way rather than closing it.
SS1
Note: The funnel is not in the Tool Rail. Every other panel in SiteView opens from the rail, so this is the first thing people look for in the wrong place.
The panel has three tabs: Segments, Multi-Level, and Clipping.
Segments Tab
The Segments tab lists the categories found in the capture you are looking at, each with a colour swatch and the share of the model it covers, most common first. A Select All checkbox sits above the list and every category has its own checkbox.
Two things follow, and both matter when you read the list:
- The list is not a menu of everything the engine knows. It is what this capture contains. A category missing from the list was not detected here.
- The percentages are live for this model, so they change from capture to capture and from level to level. Read them as proportion, not as a metric to quote.
Three captures make the point. Eleven, eleven, and thirteen categories; sixteen distinct across the three, and only five in all of them.
| Capture | Categories listed |
|---|---|
| Indoor 360 walk, first recording | Metal Stud Wall 23.5% · Floor 14.6% · Ceiling 14.3% · Wall 12.7% · Unlabeled 8.8% · Building 6% · Debris/Clutter 5.6% · Construction Materials 4.2% · Pipe/Duct 3.2% · Window 1.5% · Beam 1% |
| Aerial capture, second recording | Roof 59% · Floor 17.3% · Debris/Clutter 14.4% · Beam 8% · Unlabeled 4.6% · Dirt Ground 4.4% · Railing 4.1% · Ceiling 3.9% · Construction Materials 3.6% · Column 2.3% · Equipment 2.2% |
| Building 7 Level 1 | Floor 21.2% · Metal Stud Wall 18.6% · Ceiling 17.2% · Wall 14.7% · Unlabeled 7.6% · Pipe/Duct 4.1% · Construction Materials 3.3% · Building 2.6% · Debris/Clutter 2.4% · Window 1.5% · Roof 1.3% · Column 1.2% · Equipment 1.1% |
SF-01
Uncheck a category and its points stop being drawn in the segment colours, which is how you strip clutter out of a view before sharing it.
SEG-01
Returning to the Plain Model
At the bottom of the Segments tab is a toggle: Show unselected in true color. This is the control that takes you between the segment-coloured model and the ordinary one.
- Switch the toggle off to see the model in its own photographic colour.
- Switch it on to bring the segment colours back.
SS1T
Note: If someone asks how to turn the colours off, this toggle is the answer — not unchecking the categories.
IMAGE HALF IN HAND · SEG-03
Shows: the same view twice, segment-coloured and true-colour, with the toggle visible in both so the pair reads as one action
Why it is not here: The true-colour half is the screenshot above. The segment-coloured half at the same viewpoint still needs shooting, and should be taken while answering the question below.
FOR REVIEW — One minute of clicking closes the last mechanism question in this article. An earlier review filed a bug: with every category unchecked and the toggle on, the model stayed fully segment-coloured instead of returning to true colour. If the toggle is the intended route back, unchecking everything is not it, and what was recorded may be two controls disagreeing rather than one failing. Someone needs to try both and say what should happen — the answer decides whether this section describes one control or two.
Multi-Level Tab
The second tab has nothing to do with labels. It is a checklist of the building's levels, top down, with a Select All above them.
- Uncheck a level and it disappears from the model.
- Select alternate levels to get a cutaway you can see into rather than a solid block.
SS2
SF-04b
FOR REVIEW — An earlier note recorded a case-normalisation bug here, where the level list showed "Level 5" and "LEVEL 5" as separate entries. The full-resolution snip above lists eight levels named consistently, so the duplicate is more likely two levels named that way in that project than a UI defect. Confirm before anyone files it, and check the level names of whatever project we shoot on.
Clipping Tab
Three pairs of sliders — Bottom/Top, Front/Back, Left/Right — plus Relative Range and Reset. Use them to slice the model down to a slab, a bay, or a single room.
SF-05
Note: Each axis also carries a lock icon that appears in no document. Its behaviour is not described here until someone can say what it locks.
Surface Quality
FOR REVIEW — This section is held, and it may have no subject. The launch plan states twice that quality-issue detection — corrosion, water damage, concrete defects, oil spills, surface cracks — is delivered through Semantic Segmentation's surface-quality labels. If that is true, this is the most valuable section in the article. But across three captures and sixteen distinct categories, not one is a surface-quality label. Three independent captures with none is not proof of absence, but it is no longer a thin sample. If they do not ship at 5.0 then a launch-plan claim is wrong, this section has no subject, and the Capture Intelligence Overview article — which sends readers here for defect detection — is wrong with it.
IMAGE NEEDED · SEG-04
Shows: the Segments list scrolled to its end, with the last categories legible
Why it is not here: The cheapest way to answer the question above. Note that the Building 7 snip shows thirteen categories with no scrollbar, so on that capture the list is already complete — what is unknown is the engine's full taxonomy, not what the panel is hiding below the fold.
IMAGE BLOCKED · SEG-05
Shows: a surface-quality category selected, with the affected surface highlighted in the model
Why it is not here: Existence unconfirmed. This cannot be queued as work until product says these labels exist.
Supported Captures and Viewer Modes
FOR REVIEW — Held on one ruling. Three documents give three answers. Launch plan §2.1, the scope authority, says 360 video only, with drone and laser scan unsupported at 5.0. PX_SmartFilter says it runs across 3D Map, Ortho/Drone, and External Laser Scan — but documents the CupixVista release. The SiteView spec v0.14 places SmartFilter in the Aerial/Drone viewport group, and DE-462 confirms Drone 3D support. A supported-capture-types list is exactly what generates tickets when it is wrong, so this article does not print one yet.
What has been seen: segmentation renders in the 3D Dollhouse, in Aerial 3D, and on a multi-level building model. That is two of the five viewer modes, and the aerial case already contradicts the strictest reading of the launch plan.
SV-12
IMAGE DEFERRED · SEG-06
Shows: SmartFilter on a drone capture, or clear evidence of its absence there
Why it is not here: No project has drone or laser-scan data, so no further recording can settle this. It needs the ruling, not more evidence.
Export
FOR REVIEW — Held on the same ruling. The planned behaviour is a WYSIWYG export of only the visible categories, as separate coloured layers in PLY, E57, or XYZ. That is specified for CupixVista, and whether it reaches CupixWorks at 5.0 is the same question as the capture types. Promising an export format that does not ship is worse than omitting the section.
IMAGE BLOCKED · SF-07
Shows: the export dialog with the PLY / E57 / XYZ format choices
Why it is not here: May be CupixVista only, in which case there is nothing in CupixWorks to photograph.
Processing Cost
FOR REVIEW — This section has no source. The planned line claims roughly 10 to 20 percent added processing time, with no user action required. That figure appears in no document read so far. Either someone attributes it or the section comes out — publishing an unsourced performance number is how a support article becomes a commitment.
Where Else the Labels Turn Up
SmartFilter is the main route, and this article is it. Two cross-references rather than repetition:
- Compass can search the labels, so a question can surface a labelled area without opening this panel.
- Capture Intelligence is a different engine with different outputs. It explains what it produces and points here for anything to do with surfaces and materials.
Note: Refer to the Compass article and the Capture Intelligence Overview article for those.
FOR REVIEW — Where should this article live? The engine belongs to Cupix Intelligence → Gen6 SLAM; the feature belongs to SiteView → SiteView Features. It is written for the second, with a cross-link from the first, because that is where a reader is standing when they need it. Say if you disagree — it changes the category counts in the v10 structure.
