Introduction
CupixField is the CupixWorks mobile app for the people working on site. It brings the project's reference plans, 360° captures and BIM models to a phone, lets you record what you find as SpatialNotes, and lets you track installed equipment as Assets. Every note and asset is pinned to a location and shows up in the same place in SiteView on the desktop.
- CupixField replaces TwinField. If you have the older app installed, this is its successor.
- CupixField runs on iOS and Android, and AR works on both.
- CupixField is available to users with Project Member or higher permissions.
- The app has two tabs: SpatialNote for notes and Asset for assets. The level chooser, the plan, the 3D and BIM viewer and AR are shared by both.
- Building and level - where you are; tap to change it.
- Search - finds notes on this level.
- Settings - project, marker display, support and sign-out.
- SpatialNote / Asset - the two tabs.
- Filters - narrow the list; the left icon opens them all.
- + - creates a note.
- SiteView - swipe up to open the plan.
Getting Around
Site, Building and Level
Every screen is scoped to one place in the project, shown at the top: the building on the first line, the level under it. Tap it to open Choose Level.
- Site - notes that belong to the whole site.
- Building - tap to open Choose Building and switch building.
- Levels - the building's levels, the current one ticked; Default appears for a building with no levels drawn.
Switching Project and Settings
Tap the gear at the top right to open Settings.
- Team - the workspace you are signed in to.
- Current Project - opens your project list.
- Contact Support - sends a message to Cupix support.
- Marker Display - what a marker and its card show: status or form template.
- App Version - the installed app version.
- Account - the signed-in user; Sign out ends the session.
- Search for projects - finds a project by name.
- Current project - ticked; tap another to switch.
The Plan
Swipe up the SiteView bar at the bottom of the list to open the plan: the current level's reference plan, drawn over the map where the plan is geolocated, with a marker for every note or asset.
Form notes appear as their template's symbol. Tap a marker to open its panel at the foot of the screen, and tap the panel to open the note itself. If you locate yourself while not on site, the app reports Outside project area. Moved to nearest plan location.
- Filter - filters the markers like the list.
- Where you are - the tab and the building / level.
- Refresh - reloads notes and captures.
- Plan selector - opens Change Ref. Plan.
- 3D - opens the capture and BIM viewer.
- Cluster - markers close together; zoom in to split it.
- Photo & Voice note - a camera icon; ! means Note not aligned.
- Locate - centres the plan on your position.
- + - creates a note here.
- Current plan - ticked.
- Other plan pages - tap one to show it on the plan.
3D and BIM
Tap 3D at the top right of the plan. The app shows Preparing 3D View... and opens the capture viewer above the plan. The two halves work together: the plan below shows a blue dot for every position the camera stood at, and the view above is that 360° capture.
Notes and assets on the level appear inside the 360° view as floating markers with their symbol and name. Tap one to highlight it and open its panel. In BIM view the capture date is replaced by a chip naming the model. Tap the chip to open the BIM Selector, switch individual model files and their sub-categories on or off, and tap Apply.
- 3D / AR - switches between the capture and the live camera.
- Capture date - switches to a capture from another date.
- 360 / BIM - switches between the 360 capture and the BIM model.
- Close - back to the plan.
- Minimize - shrinks the plan from the split view.
- You are here - the orange cone shows where the camera looks.
AR View
AR puts the 360° capture, or the BIM model, over the phone's live camera so you can compare what was captured with what is in front of you. Before it can do that, it has to know where you are standing and which way you are facing. That is what aligning does.
Enter AR
Open the capture viewer with 3D, then tap AR on the toggle. The view you were in is carried across: enter from 360 view and the capture becomes the overlay; enter from BIM view and the model does. You can switch between them in AR from the left rail.
Align
- Let the app try first. On entering AR it looks for a photo note near your position to align to, and shows Move your phone to show your surroundings while it checks. If it finds none, it offers Align manually or Back to 3D view.
- Lock the reference angle. Point the camera at your surroundings, then tap Lock View.
- Match the two images. The reference is laid over the camera image. Set the overlay to 50% on the left rail (see The left rail below) and line up edges: doorframes, columns and beams are the easiest to match.
- Accept or retry. Tap Confirm, or Pick Another.
- Capture date - selects the capture date.
- Need help? - opens help.
- Lock View - freezes the reference at this angle.
- Pick Another - choose a different reference position.
- Confirm - accepts the alignment.
To leave aligning, tap the back arrow. The app asks Discard Alignment?
- Discard - leaves aligning without saving.
- Keep Aligning - returns to the alignment.
The left rail
The rail holds two groups: which overlay is drawn, and how strongly.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| 360 / BIM | Which overlay goes over the camera: the 360° capture, or the BIM model. The selected one is highlighted. |
| Droplet with a slash | Overlay off. You see the live camera only. |
| Half-filled droplet | Overlay at 50%, so the camera shows through it. Use this one while matching edges. |
| Solid droplet | Overlay at 100%, covering the camera image. |
The app confirms each change with an Opacity: 50% or Opacity: 100% toast.
BIM over the camera - the model at 50% opacity, here the structural beams in red.
- The opacity control belongs to AR. In 3D mode the rail carries the 360 / BIM switch only.
- A large BIM model can take a moment to load in AR, and may flicker while it does.
Working in AR
Notes on the level appear at their positions once you are aligned. Tap a marker to open its panel, and tap the panel to open the note.
- Filter - filters the markers the same way it does on the plan.
- Plan minimap - your position on the plan.
- Align manually - stays on screen; redo the alignment whenever the overlay drifts.
- + - creates a note where you stand.
SpatialNotes
The Note List
The SpatialNote tab lists every note on the current level. The list is an accordion three levels deep, and every level has an arrow to collapse it and a badge with its count.
The note groups are Photo & Voice Notes and the groups the project defines; inside each, notes are grouped by date.
Swipe down to refresh. Tap a note to open it; the ⋮ on each row holds the same actions as the note's own menu.
- Filters - Date, Status, Tag.
- Note group - with its count; the arrow collapses it.
- Phone icon - notes not anchored to a capture, by date.
- A note - thumbnail, name, last update, tag and comment count.
- Shutter icon - notes anchored to the capture of that date.
The filter icon on the left opens every filter in one panel.
| Filter | What it offers |
|---|---|
| Date | A Created Date range and an Updated Date range, each switched on separately. |
| Group | The project's note groups, in the filter panel. |
| Status | The note's status, by stage: Initiation, Execution, Finalization, with Select All. |
| Tag | Every tag defined in the project, plus No Tag. |
Clear All / Apply - reset or apply the filter.
- Filter icon - the badge counts the active filters.
- Filter chip - the active filter; tap x to clear it.
Select Several Notes
The checkbox icon between search and the gear turns the list into selection mode. Tick the notes you want, then use the bar at the bottom.
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Move To | Opens Choose Capture Date. |
| Attach Note | Links the selected notes to notes of the other kind. Photo and voice notes form one kind and FormNotes the other, so selected FormNotes open Link Photo & Voice Notes, and selected photo or voice notes open Link FormNote. |
| Delete | Removes the selected notes. |
- Notes Selected - how many notes are ticked; x leaves selection.
- Checkboxes - tick the notes to act on.
- Action bar - Move To, Attach Note and Delete; see the table above.
- Choose Capture Date - where the selected notes go.
- Standalone - not anchored to any capture.
- Capture dates - anchors them to that capture.
- Search - finds photo and voice notes.
- Filters - Date and Tag.
- A photo or voice note - tick it to link it.
- Filters - Date, Tag, Status and Group.
- A FormNote - tick it to link it.
Search
The magnifier in the top bar opens a search page of its own. It looks through more than the names:
- the note name
- the description
- the transcript of a voice note or a spoken caption, so you can find a note by something you said into it
- the filenames of its attachments
Results come back as cards showing the text that matched, and can be sorted and filtered on the page itself.
- Search covers the level you are on, not the whole project.
- It starts unfiltered: the filters you set on the list are not carried across, and going back restores the list as you left it.
Create a Note
Tap the blue + at the bottom right of the plan, 3D or AR view. It offers three kinds of note.
- VoiceNote - a voice recording pinned to a location.
- PhotoNote - one or more photos pinned to a location; photo notes are also what AR aligns to.
- FormNote - a note built from one of the project's form templates, with its fields.
- Close - closes the menu.
If you start inside a 360° capture, the app first asks Anchor Note to Capture?. Start on the plan and the note is standalone, and Anchored Capture on the form reads None with the creation date.
- Anchor - the note is attached to this 360 capture and its date.
- Keep Standalone - the note is pinned to the plan only.
FormNote
- Choose a template. If the template belongs to more than one note group, the app asks which group to use.
- Pick the location. For a standalone note, drag the plan until the crosshair is where the note belongs, then tap Confirm. The compass and move buttons on the right rotate and pan the plan. An anchored note takes its location from the view you started in.
- Name it, then tap Next.
- Fill in the form and tap Save.
- Group chips - filter the templates by note group.
- A template - listed under its note group; tap to use it.
- Name - pre-filled with the template name and today's date.
- Next - opens the form.
- Group - the note group.
- Anchored Capture - the capture it is anchored to; the icon unlinks it.
- Tag - optional.
- Template fields - the fields this template defines.
- Save - creates the note.
- Reference - adds a link.
- Linked Notes - links PhotoNotes and VoiceNotes from this level.
- Files - adds a photo, video, voice memo or file.
- Save - creates the note.
Linked Notes opens Link Photo & Voice Notes, where you search the level's photo and voice notes and filter them by date and tag. The app confirms with Created. and the new marker appears on the plan.
Add File - Take Photo, Take Video, Choose Photo, Record Voice Memo, Choose File.
PhotoNote
A PhotoNote starts on the plan, and you can take several photos in one go.
- Place it. Drag the plan to the spot, then tap Take photo.
- Take the picture.
- Keep it, or say something about it: Retake, Speak Caption or Use Photo.
- Tag it, or do not: Apply Tag or Save with No Tag.
- Take more, or save. Tap Take photo again for another, or Save; then save them all from Notes to save.
- Link them, or close: Link FormNote or Close.
- Add note here - drag the plan until the crosshair is on the spot.
- Compass - rotates the plan.
- Move - pans the plan.
- Take photo - opens the camera.
- Save - available once there is a photo.
- Frame guide - centre the subject in the frame.
- 1x / 2x - switches the lens.
- Shutter - takes the photo.
- Close - cancels.
- Flash - flash on or off.
- Retake - take it again.
- Speak Caption - record a spoken caption for the photo.
- Use Photo - keep it and choose a tag.
- Tags - the project's tags; pick one.
- Apply Tag - saves the photo with the tag.
- Save with No Tag - saves it without one.
- Notes - the photos taken so far, with their count.
- Take photo - adds another photo.
- Save - reviews and saves them all.
- A PhotoNote - its name and tag.
- Edit / Delete - change or remove it before saving.
- Save 1 notes - saves every note in the list.
- Note created - the notes are saved.
- Link FormNote - links them to a FormNote.
- Close - back to the plan.
VoiceNote
A VoiceNote starts at the recorder instead of the camera. A modal opens with a live waveform, a timer and a stop button; tap stop and the app transcribes the recording by itself, so the note is searchable by what you said without anyone typing it up.
Note Details
Tap a note to open it. Which tabs you get depends on the kind of note.
| Kind of note | Tabs |
|---|---|
| FormNote | Overview · Properties · Attachments |
| PhotoNote and VoiceNote | Overview · Attachments |
Overview on a FormNote carries the note's Status as a dropdown, where a note is moved along its stages, its tag, and when it was updated and created and by whom.
Overview on a photo or voice note is laid out for the media instead. The photo sits at the top and opens full screen from the expand icon; below it are the description and the Caption, which plays the recording back and shows the transcript. Photo and voice notes have no status.
Properties shows the template's fields. The pencil opens Edit Properties, where the name, description, assignee, due date and any custom fields are edited together and saved once.
Attachments holds three lists, each with its own +: Reference (a link), Linked Notes (photo and voice notes from this level) and Files (Take Photo, Take Video, Choose Photo, Record Voice Memo, Choose File).
- Setting a FormNote's status to a Finalization-stage value takes effect at once; the app does not ask you to confirm it.
- Once a FormNote is finalized, only its Status and Comments can be changed. Properties, description, tag, location and attachments become read-only.
- Each attachment has its own ⋮ for renaming, downloading or deleting it.
- Comments appear at the foot of every tab, and take attachments of their own: Take Photo, Choose Photo, Record Voice Memo and Choose File.
More Options
The ⋮ menu at the top right of a note holds the actions on the note as a whole.
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Rename | Changes the note's name. |
| Move to | Moves the note to another note group, or to another capture. A note can only move to a note group that uses the same template. |
| Duplicate | Creates a copy. |
| Copy URL | Copies a link that opens this note in SiteView. |
| Delete | Removes the note. |
Assets
The Asset tab is new in CupixWorks 5.0. An asset is a piece of equipment, such as a pump, a valve or a panel, that the project tracks through its life: where it is, what state it is in, and what has happened to it.
The Asset Tab
The tab opens on the asset types for the current level. Tap a type to go down into its categories; the assets at that point in the tree are listed under the folders.
- Filters - Status and Work Area.
- Asset type - a folder with its categories and assets.
- + - adds an asset.
- Status - the asset's status by stage.
- Work Area - Unset, No WorkArea and the project's work areas.
- Breadcrumb - where you are in the type tree.
- Category - goes one level further down.
- An asset - photo, name, last update, status badge and work area.
Asset Details
Open an asset and it has four tabs.
- Overview: the asset's photo, the fields marked below, and comments. Tap the photo to see it full screen, where Download, Change and Remove are offered; an asset without a photo shows Add Asset Image instead.
- Properties: a category with no form template shows No properties.
- Attachments: files.
- Status History: the asset's status changes over time.
- Status - tap to change it.
- Description - add or edit.
- Work Area - the asset's work area.
- Coordinate - X / Y / Z on the level.
Choose Status - the workspace's status set, grouped by stage.
- Edit - opens Edit Properties.
- Form Fields - the category template's fields.
- Fields - edit them together.
- Save - saves all changes once.
- Asset statuses come from a status set the workspace defines in Team Settings › Templates › Status Sets, the same place note statuses live, so the names and stages differ from project to project.
- A newly created asset starts as Not Started, before its first status.
- Changing an asset's work area unsets its sub-items. The app warns before it does.
Add an Asset
Tap the blue + on the Asset tab.
- Pick the location on the plan, or Skip this step to place it later.
- Name it.
- Choose the category. Category opens the type tree. Search for the type or pick it from the list, drill down through its child categories until the one you want is ticked, then tap Select. The category decides which form fields the asset gets.
- Finish the form. Add a description, a photo, the work area and any files you have; the building and level are the ones you are in. Tap Save.
The new asset opens with status Not Started and its coordinate filled in.
More Options
The ⋮ menu at the top right of an asset holds the actions on the asset as a whole.
- Rename - changes the name.
- Set Geotag - places the asset.
- Duplicate - creates a copy.
- Delete - removes the asset.
- Building, Level, WorkArea, Coordinate - where the asset is.
- Confirm - saves the location.
Offline Mode
- When the device is offline, an offline banner appears at the top of the screen.
- Actions that need the server are unavailable.
- Only the reference plan is available to view when offline.
